Signal Rock, Glen Coe
On the 13th February 1692, thirty-eight MacDonalds from the Clan MacDonald were killed by the Earl of Argylls’ Regiment of Foot who had accepted their hospitality, on the grounds that the MacDonalds had not been prompt in pledging allegiance to the new king, William of Orange. Another forty women and children died of exposure after their homes were burned.
Signal rock was the place where a fire was lit to to give the signal to start the attack.
