House No.16
Lachlan MacDonald (1906-1991). Left St Kilda at evacuation.
“I liked the puffin. Anytime you were feeling hungry, instead of putting a pot on the nice peat fire, the puffin was cleaned and split open and you would just put it standing propped up by the fire on a brick or a stone. If you put it too close it would get blackened and he burnt, it wouldn’t take long to cook, just slowly – it would be lovely – that’s if you were wanting a wee snack!”
