The Street 2
Neil Ferguson (1876-1944). Left St Kilda at evacuation.
“Fine I mind the evacuation of St Kilda; I was the last to leave the island, all the rest were aboard the steamer early in the morning. I was in charge of the Post Office and made every excuse to remain as long as I could. I was threatened and pleaded with, but I always made the excuse that I wasn’t ready yet, but excuses were of no use. I went for a last walk round the village. It was weird passing the empty houses; it was just like looking at an open grave.”
