George Murray. Schoolmaster – Diary 1886
“December 22nd. The child that was born a week ago took ill, the jaws fell last night, and it is not expected to live long. It got all the attendance that could be bestowed upon it.
December 27th. Last night at 10.30 the child, after six days of intense suffering, departed this life. Everyone expressed great wonder how it lived so long after being seized with illness, as they generally succumb a week after they are born.”
